Mp 0.0/27.7: US-302 [Crawford Notch Road]

Orient: The AT crosses US-302 [Crawford Notch Road] at Willey House Station Road 12.2 mi southeast of US-3 in Twin Mountain and 25 mi northwest of NH-16 in Conway. Willey House Station Road branches south from US-302 a mile southeast of the Willey House Site on US-302.

Park: Room for half dozen cars in pull-off at intersection of US-302 with Wiley House Station Road; south side of US-302 and east side of Wiley House Station Road.

Mp 0.3/27.4: Wiley House Station Road

Orient: From the intersection of US-302 [Crawford Notch Road] and Willey House Station Road for Mp 0.0/27.7 above, continue on Willey House Station Road south/southeast for 0.3 mi to its terminus at the trailhead lot.

Park: Park in medium lot or along shoulder of road adjacent to lot.

Mp 1.6/26.1: via Kedron Flume Trail

Locate: {44.18163, -71.39883}

Orient: Trailhead parking is on US-302 [Crawford Notch Road] at the Willey House Site in Crawford Notch State Park (Harts Location, NH). This is 11.2 mi southeast of US-3 in Twin Mountain and 26 mi northwest of NH-16 in Conway. Willey House is on the west side of the road.

Park: Plentiful parking in several lots at Willey House Site; both sides of road.

Connect: Follow blue-blazed Kedron Flume Trail from behind the shop for 1.3 mi to AT aka Ethan Pond Trail; pass the Flume at 0.75 mi. For AT northbound, turn left; for AT southbound turn right. The trail is reported to be very steep, particularly the portion between Kedron Flume and the AT.

Mp 7.5/20.2: via Zealand Trail

Locate: {44.22489, -71.47832}

Orient: Zealand Road [USFS-16] branches southwest from US-302 at the point 2.2 mi south of US-3 in Twin Mountain and 2.4 mi north of Bretton Woods ski area. Follow Zealand Road [USFS-16] south for 3.5 mi to its terminus at the trailhead lot. The initially paved road becomes gravel. It is closed in winter.

Park: Large lot; WMNF parking permit required.

Connect: Follow blue-blazed Zealand Trail, largely an old railroad grade, for 2.3 mi to AT; climbing 405 feet. For AT northbound aka Ethan Pond Trail, go left; For AT southbound aka The Twinway, go right.

Mp 15.3/12.4: via Gale River Trail

Locate: {44.23263, -71.61067}

Orient: Gravel Gale River Road [USFS-25 ] branches southeast from US-3 [Daniel Webster Highway] 5.2 mi west of US-302 in Twin Mountain and 4.6 mi east of I-93 at exit 36. Follow Gale River Road for 1.3 mi (keeping left at fork at 0.6 mi) to right onto Gale River Loop Road [USFS-92]; continue for 0.3 mi to left (east) into lot. Alternatively, follow directions to parking for Garfield Ridge Trail for Mp 17.6/10.1, below, then continue on Gale River Loop Road for 1.6 mi to right (east) into lot.

Park: Large lot; WMNF parking permit required.

Connect: Follow blue-blazed Gale River Trail for 4.0 miles to AT aka Garfield Ridge Trail; climbing 1,800 feet. For AT northbound, turn left; for AT southbound turn right.

Mp 17.6/10.1: via Garfield Trail

Orient: Gravel Gale River Loop Road [USFS-92] branches south from US-3 [Daniel Webster Highway] 5.5 mi west of US-302 in Twin Mountain and 4.3 mi east of I-93 at exit 36. Follow Gale River Road for 1.1 mi to left onto bridge over river; continue for 0.1 mi to right (south) into lot. Alternatively, follow directions to parking for Gale River Trail for Mp 15.3/12.4, above, then continue on Gale River Loop Road for 1.6 mi to left (south) into lot.

Park: Large lot; WMNF parking permit required.

Connect: Follow Garfield Trail, an old access road, for 4.8 miles to AT aka Garfield Ridge Trail; climbing 2,700 feet. For AT northbound, turn left; for AT southbound turn right.

Mp 20.5/7.2: via Skookumchuck Trail

Orient: The USFS lot is on the east side of US-3 near the northernmost concurrence of US-3 with I-93. From I-93 S, take exit 36 for NH-141 and continue east for 0.8 mi to right onto US-3; follow US-3 south for 0.3 mi to left into lot. From I-93 N, take exit 35 for US-3 and continue north 0.6 mi to right into lot. Lot is signed as "National Forest Trails Parking".

Park: Medium lot, paved.

Connect: Follow Skookumchuck Trail south for 4.3 miles to AT aka Garfield Ridge Trail. For AT northbound, turn left; for AT southbound turn right.

Mp 21.3/6.4: via Old Bridle Path to Greenleaf Trail from I-93 N

Orient: Trailhead parking for the Old Bridle Path is available from both the northbound and southbound sides of I-93 between exits 34A and 34B. Two catty-corner lots are connected by a pedestrian tunnel underneath the highway. These coordinates locate the east lot adjacent to the northbound roadway. From I-93 N, take exit signed for Trailhead Parking into lot.

Park: Large lot. Overflow roadside parking looks to be permissible along shoulder of highway straddling driveways entering and leaving lot.

Connect: Follow the Old Bridle Path for 2.9 mi, then fork right to the Greenleaf Trail. Follow the Greenleaf Trail for 1.1 mi to the AT, at the summit of Mt Lafayette. For AT northbound aka Garfield Ridge Trail, turn left. For AT southbound aka Franconia Ridge Trail, turn right.

Mp 21.3/6.4: via Old Bridle Path to Greenleaf Trail from I-93 S

Orient: Trailhead parking for the Old Bridle Path is available from both the northbound and southbound sides of I-93 between exits 34A and 34B. Two catty-corner lots are connected by a pedestrian tunnel underneath the highway. These coordinates locate the west lot adjacent to the southbound roadway. From I-93 S, take exit signed for Lafayette Place Campground into lot.

Park: Medium lot. Overflow roadside parking looks to be permissible along shoulder of highway south of driveway leaving lot.

Connect: Use pedestrian underpass to walk to east lot, serving I-93 N. Then continue to AT as above.

Mp 23.0/4.7: via Falling Waters Trail from I-93 N

Park: Trailhead parking for the Falling Waters Trail is the same as for the Old Bridle Path; see Mp 21.3/6.4 from I-93 N, above.

Connect: Follow Falling Waters Trail for 3.2 mi to AT aka Franconia Ridge Trail, at the summit of Little Haystack. For AT northbound, turn left; for AT southbound, turn right. (Falling Waters Trail and Old Bridle Path coincide for their initial 0.2 mi from the parking lot.)

Mp 23.0/4.7: via Falling Waters Trail from I-93 S

Park: Trailhead parking for the Falling Waters Trail is the same as for the Old Bridle Path; see Mp 21.3/6.4 from I-93 S, above.

Connect: Use pedestrian underpass to walk to east lot, serving I-93 N. Then connect to AT as described above for east lot.

Mp 27.7/0.0: via Recreational Trail from I-93 N at Basin

Orient: Trailhead parking at the Basin is available from both the northbound and southbound sides of I-93 between exits 34A and 34B. Two catty-corner lots are connected by the paved Recreational Trail (Franconia Notch Bike Path) passing underneath the highway. These coordinates locate the east lot adjacent to the northbound roadway. From I-93 N, take the Basin exit and bear right into lot.

Park: Large lot.

Connect: Follow Recreational Trail south about 0.7 mi to AT. For AT northbound aka Liberty Springs Trail, go left before bridge over the Pemigewasset River. For AT southbound aka Cascade-Brook Trail, go right after bridge and continue through underpass.

Mp 27.7/0.0: via Recreational Trail from I-93 S at Basin

Orient: Trailhead parking at the Basin is available from both the northbound and southbound sides of I-93 between exits 34A and 34B. Two catty-corner lots are connected by the paved Recreational Trail (Franconia Notch Bike Path) passing underneath the highway. These coordinates locate the west lot adjacent to the southbound roadway. From I-93 S, take the Basin exit and bear right into lot.

Park: Large lot.

Connect: Follow Recreational Trail for 0.3 mi southeast through pedestrian underpass to the east Basin lot, serving I-93 N. Continue for 0.7 mi to AT, as above from east lot.

Mp 27.7/0.0: via Whitehouse Trail from US-3 [Daniel Webster Hwy]

Locate: {44.09983, -71.68244}

Orient: The lot is on the east side of US-3, about 0.2 mi north of the Flume lot (offering additional parking and connecting by Recreational Trail). From I-93 N, take exit 34A for US-3 and continue north for 0.8 mi to right into lot; after passing Flume area. From I-93 S, take exit 34A for US-3 and continue south for 0.8 mi to left into lot; before reaching Flume area. Exit 34A from either direction is signed for US-3, "The Flume Gorge", and "Park Information Center". The lot looks to be signed as "Trailhead Parking".

Park: Large lot.

Connect: Follow Whitehouse Trail north for 0.8 miles to the AT at Pemigewasset River, or follow parallel Recreational Trail (Franconia Notch Bike Path) instead. For AT northbound aka Liberty Springs Trail, go right after crossing bridge over river. For AT southbound aka Cascade-Brook Trail, go left before bridge and continue through underpass.
