Bee Day – hanging queen cage 2

photographic subject of page

A glitch: The retaining strap had detached from the cage, which landed in the mass of bees inside the package. I gingerly fished it out using that hive tool and long-nosed pliers, then redeployed some border twine from the garden for a replacement. Turns out, hanging the cages like this made it awkward to subsequently handle the cages when it came time to release the queens a few days later. It also led to misaligned comb. Beginner's lesson duly learned. I've got a better plan in mind for next time. And tinkering is part of the fun. Photo courtesy of LH
