Bee Day – shaking in bees

photographic subject of page

The workers (and any tag-along drones) go in next. First, mist one last time to distract them with a sweet treat. Next, whack the package once or twice to dislodge them from the walls into a pile on the bottom. When you whack the package, you hear a rising buzz and a muffled whoosh. You can also feel the cluster shift. Finally, flip the package hole-side down and shake the bees into the hive—gently but with gusto. A few shakes and you're done. It's remarkably easy, actually.
