Manasquan Ocean Mile Swim

This one-mile swim in the easy surf of Manasquan attracts a mellow crowd of moderate size and mixed ages.

Registration
Register outside the Elks Beach lifeguard station on the north end of the promenade (Beach Front Road), at 1st Avenue. Registration opens at 6:30 AM and closes about 7:30 AM. Online pre-registration with a discount is available. Paper pre-registration with a discount is available.
Parking
Park for free until 10 AM in the ample municipal lot at the north end of 2nd Avenue, after Stockton Avenue. Or find free street parking to stay beyond 10 AM. Allow five or so minutes for short walk to registration.
Restrooms
Public restrooms and beach showers are adjacent to registration. There are additional public restrooms on the promenade at both Main Street and Brielle Road, along the walk to the start.
Bags
Leave bag at registration area.
Wetsuits
Permitted, no penalty, not popular.
Start
The swim starts a mile south of the registration area and just north of Manasquan Inlet Walk to start along beach or (reasonably smooth) asphalt promenade ready to go; there is no bag wagon at the start. Running start from beach into surf.
Course
The course runs northward parallel to shore. Swim out to buoy and turn left; proceed northward about one mile to last buoy; turn left and head into beach. The course is marked with two buoys at the start and finish and passes three rock jetties. To navigate, swim towards Coast Guard antenna tower, then look for final buoy. When you see the red awnings of Gee Gee's on the promenade, you've swum about two thirds of the course. (The course may be reversed to follow current.)
Finish
Running finish from surf onto beach and into timing chute. Finish is adjacent to registration, beach showers, and refreshments.
Timing
Electronic chip with ankle strap. Time clock.
